Sodom and Gomorrah…I think you know this one.

The Lord, still hanging out with his bro, Abraham, was having a debate about whether or not to let old Abe in on his plans.  Finally, God told Abraham, “Look, I’m going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because their sin is like so bad that people are constantly calling, texting, and tweeting me to tell me all about it.”

Genesis 18:16-33 & 19:1-25

Now Abraham knows that he’s chill with the Lord and decides to intervene saying, “Lord, can you just go check it out?  If there are 50 OK people there, will you spare the cities?”

To which God responds, “Yeah.  If I find 50 righteous people, I will spare them all for the sake of the 50.”

So Abraham is like, “Greeeeat, but like, what if there are only 45, surely you will still spare them.  I mean, it’s only 5 more garbage people.” 

And God is like, “Sure.  I guess.  45.  I’ll spare them all.”

Abraham proceeds to do this until they agree that Sodom and Gomorrah will be spared if we can find just 20 cool people.

Pan to hanging out with Lot in Sodom.  Lot is offering food to the Lord, trying to prove that this is a cool place and everyone is generally OK here.

Then ALL OF HIS NEIGHBORS come to his house and start yelling, “Hey Lot!!  You have some dudes visiting (literally the Holy Trinity…I think…don’t come for me).  Send them out so we can have sex with them.”

So, ummmm…the Lord was like, “Yeah, that’s rape.  These people suck.  Lot, take your family and get out of here because this place is going to burn tomorrow.”

You know the rest, right?  Fire and brimstone because God couldn’t even find 20 dudes chill enough to stop raping for one night.  When God has a #metoo moment with a whole town…fire and brimstone.
